"Twisting Turns" first appeared in 2011 as both a red blend (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Carignane) and a Sauvignon Blanc. Neither was estate-grown, but bottled in small quantities, 25 cases of red and 12 cases of white. We no longer produce the Sauvignon Blanc, although we do have available a 2013 Chardonnay under the "Sonoma View" label.
The grapes of the estate-grown "Twisting Turns" Cabernet Sauvignon were first harvested at Thanksgiving 2011. Each year the wine is made at Razi Winery on the Silverado Trail by Massimo Monticelli, and placed in two new French oak barrels for approximately 20 months. The wine is distinguished by having very low acid, making it smooth, rich and among the most elegant and drinkable of the Cabernet wines produced. It varies very little in taste and quality from year to year.
Typically we produce only 50 cases each year, and we have sold out of the 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages. We still have available some quantities of the 2015 through 2017 vintages (although 2015 is very limited) at a price of $600 per case. The 2015 vintage, typical of the Napa and Sonoma regions, was half our usual output. The 2017 vintage was harvested the week before the vineyard found itself in the middle of the Nun’s Canyon fire! Thankfully we survived with the loss of only 7 vines! The 2018 vintage was bottled on September 17, 2020 and, while available for purchase, needs some "bottle rest' before drinking. It looks to be superb!
